"Why is he always my son when he's acting up?" Lynne asks, shifting Clara's weight to her other arm. Her daughter makes an annoyed mewl, then latches back on.
Gary kisses her hip. "Because you run me ragged too, my love. In significantly nicer ways."
She smiles at him. "I try. What's he done now?"
"He wanted to play monster," Gary says, sounding long-suffering. "Godzilla, specifically. Where does he get these ideas?"
"The fancies of youth," Lynne says innocently, and Gary laughs.
