Title: Before the Storm
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Amelia waits.
Warnings: none.
Notes: This takes place just after Secrets, in which Amelia Sierbenski finds out that her husband had a family before her.
A sort of terrible calm had settled over Amelia now.
Frank was late. Of course he was. If the girl wasn't lying-- Amelia knew she wasn't-- then their lives were about to change, and not for the better, and such changes never came on time. Instead they made you wait and wait while the minutes stretched out like taffy and your life replayed, every moment taking a new, weighted significance.
Did he give it away here? Or here? Should I have known it then, or then?
She'd had a glass of wine, but only one. She'd sent the boys to the babysitter early. She'd changed, even, and put dinner away, so he'd know this wasn't a usual birthday celebration.
She could make no decisions until she knew, one way or another, what the true story was. And she'd have that truth before the night was up, whether or not Frank would actually tell her. But for now...
For now, she sat in the living room, and waited.
