"This is boring," Charlie whined, and threw down the game controller. "It's so stupid."

Jason rolled his eyes. How Mother had blackmailed him into babysitting his cousin he still could not say for sure, but he would think it over and make sure it never happened again. "It's a game," he said, coldly. "If you don't like it, play a different one."

"No!" Charlie yelled. He picked the controller up again and threw it across the room. It shattered next to Jason's head.

He didn't blink. "Then find something else to do. Why would I care?"

"You're supposed to be watching me," Charlie said. "If you don't play with me I'll tell Mom you broke the controller."

Jason genuinely could not care less about what Charlie told his mother, since it wasn't as if Jason's mother would take her word for anything-- they were probably screaming at each other right now, making a scene in the diner where they'd gone to "talk." Jason disliked scenes. That was the one good thing about babysitting Charlie; he could avoid one.

Unless, of course, Charlie insisted on creating one right here. "I will!" he said, his voice rising, growing shriller. "I will! You'll be in so much trouble! I'll tell her you hit me! I'll tell her you locked me up! I will!"

"So?" Jason asked.

That seemed to take Charlie aback, because he stopped shouting, his mouth dropped open, and his eyes went big. Jason went back to his comic book.

It wasn't realistic enough, that was the problem. People didn't bleed that much. He turned the page and watched the superhero beat up a villain.

"I'll let you pick," Charlie said, suddenly very close, his voice cloying.

Jason rolled his eyes, but didn't look up. "Pick what?"

"The game," Charlie said. "We can play whatever you want. I have more controllers."

"Why would I want to play those games?" They were violent, yeah, but it was dumb violence, all shouting and shooting. "It's not like they're real."

Charlie was quiet for a moment, then asked, "They can be real?"

Jason looked up, and caught the most intriguing expression on Charlie's face, mixed confusion and worry and... interest.

"Yes," he said, and shut the comic book. "They can be real."

Charlie watched his face, intent as only a boy could be. "Can you show me?"

"Yes," Jason said. "I can show you."

He smiled, and slowly, Charlie smiled back.
