Far Enough

Rating: PG.
Summary: Michael can't get far enough away.
Date: 2003
Notes: none.
Chicago, Michael decides after a week, is not far enough.
You can get to Texas pretty easily from Chicago. It's a daylong bus ride, a little shorter on the train, and a two-day drive (or one, if you're suicidal and/or don't make any stops). It's maybe a three-hour plane ride. It's too close.
New York City is also too close. It's another day driving, maybe, another hour on a plane. Too close. It's far enough for Danny, but it's too damn close for him.
Too bad he can't leave the country. He thinks he'd like to live in Canada. But the United States has some kind of weird hold on him. The thought of crossing the border gives him the willies. Maybe because Danny is here, and she belongs to the government now, and he can't leave his sister. He won't.
Seattle, it turns out, is five hours further than New York, going by car.
He doesn't know if it's far enough, but it will have to do.
