Title: Firewood
Rating: PG
Summary: What could Lucy possibly do?
Warnings: poverty.
Notes: Not much Yvonne in here, shadowsong, but she'll be prominent in the next one.
They couldn't afford firewood anymore. Of all the stupid, needful things...
Meat they could live without, soap, wine, even cheese if they must, but firewood, and ale, and bread? No. And the parish wouldn't have them, and they couldn't go to Bridewell.
So how could she complain when Theresa 'found' some wood on the street? How could she look askance when Yvonne came in and tossed a few pennies on the table? Heaven knew what her girls were doing-- Lucy was afraid she knew all too well-- but it kept them from the streets.
What else could she possibly do?
