Title: With Some Urgency
Rating: PG
Summary: "We really need to get married soon."
Warnings: jocular mention of murder. Also, Olivia talks about herself as fat but... not in a derogatory sense? I wasn't sure if it would be a problem for someone, so, you know. Better safe than sorry.
Notes: Dum de dum...

"So I was thinking," Olivia said, over breakfast one morning in August, "we really need to get married soon."

Jake glanced up from his Cheerios (or, well, store-brand toasted oats; he actually liked them better than the brand name). "Any particular reason?" he asked, knowing that there were several. The most prominent, of course, was that they had been engaged for three years and if they didn't get married soon people were going to start questioning whether they would at all. Which they would, of course they would, it was just that he was always so busy and Olivia had better things to do than wedding planning, and neither one of them minded—

Except maybe Olivia did. And if she did, they should definitely get married.

She didn't look particularly upset though, just tired, heavy-eyed as she leaned over her morning tea. "I know it's awkward timing, with the school year starting," she said, "but, I mean, within the next three months would be ideal. The sooner the better, though. Especially if we don't want my father to have a coronary."

"We do not want your father to have a coronary," Jake said, suspecting that he was missing something. "Could we make it a little later? You're right about the school year, if we could just wait until December—"

"December won't work," Olivia said. "I am sorry about that, but it's really got to be November at the latest. Early November."

"I can probably swing November," he said, beginning to feel alarmed. "Is your father—is he all right?"
She gave him a puzzled look. "What? Yes, of course, he's fine."

"Okay, then..." She hadn't answered the first time, and maybe she didn't want to, but if they were going to get married he'd really like to know why. "Why so soon?"

Olivia straightened up. "It's already going to be difficult to find a wedding dress that will flatter me," she said, primly. "I'd rather not try to find one that will flatter me when I'm fat and showing."

"You aren't fat," Jake said, automatically, trying to process what she'd just said.

"You're sweet," she said, leaning over the table and dropping a kiss on his cheek. "I am fat though, you can say it. I'm also pregnant."

Whatever he'd been intending to say went straight out the window at that.

Jake's immediate reaction was a surge of joy. She was pregnant! Olivia was pregnant, the woman he loved more than anything was pregnant, they were going to have a baby... and that spiraled straight into terror, because he was going to be a father and what the hell did he know about being a father? What if he screwed up? Olivia was going to be an amazing mom, so maybe that would cover for his fuckups... and then the thought of fathers jolted him into abject terror again.

"Your father is going to kill me," he blurted.

Well. That was a hell of a thing to say when the love of your life announced that she was pregnant with your child. Well done him.

Fortunately, Olivia was the love of his life, so she only giggled in response. "Hence the hurry. Do you think you can manage November?"

"October," Jake said, nodding firmly. "October at the latest, absolutely." Ms. Hirschfeld liked him too much to let anyone murder him for impregnating his daughter out of wedlock; they could make it work.

Olivia laughed again, and drank the rest of her tea, then stretched, linking her hands together above her head. "Well, I have to practice, and you have to get to work. Go get dressed and I'll make you lunch."

"Okay," Jake said, and snagged her as she walked past him, pulling her into his lap. "But first..."

He kissed her, one arm wrapped around her middle (and yeah, okay, it was substantial, but she was gorgeous and honestly he kind of liked her all soft), the other sneaking past the hem of her shirt to rest on her abdomen. "I love you," he said, when he broke the kiss. "So very much."

Olivia smiled up at him, bright and beautiful. "I love you too," she said, and kissed him again, a quick brush of lips, before she pulled away and out of his lap. "Go get dressed or you'll be late."
