Title: No Regrets
Rating: PG
Summary: Gail won't lie down.
Warnings: sexist slur.
Notes: A Spenserian sonnet for your delectation and delight.
Dear my child, the world has cast us out:
family and friends alike now count us lost,
or rather, me, for you are but a sprout,
a fluttered movement, my belly embossed
by your being, and I will pay the cost
of tales told, of lies spread far and wide;
it's what they do when women's lines are crossed.
So let it be: I will not be a bride,
nor weep my days away, by slander dyed
and marked an unrepentant whore;
I'll be your mother first, and will not hide.
I will not let them win. All this I swore.
The sun will rise on us, I tell you, yet;
And naught I do for you will cause regret.
