Title: Gratitude
Rating: G
Summary: Robert and his family.
Notes: Memefill for justice_turtle.
It was a perfectly normal evening, when Robert thought about it. Susanna, humming to herself as she vaccuumed the living room, Gina doing her homework across the table from him, swinging her legs because her feet didn't touch the floor, and he in his chair, doing the bills.
And yet.
All at once he was overwhelmed with gratitude, for this house, this life, this family. Doing the bills was annoying but easy; they lived well within their means, comfortably, happily. His life was uncomplicated, his daughter brilliant and beautiful, and Susanna—
He got up, went to her, and kissed her temple. "Thank you," he murmured, and she looked up at him, pleased and astonished.
"You're welcome," she said, turning off the vaccuum, "but for what?"
He didn't answer. He didn't feel that he could. So he kissed her again, soft, and curled his fingers against the small of her back.
