Title: Stiletto Heels
Rating: PG-13.
Summary: Joy lectures some idiot.
Warnings: brief mentions of sexual harassment.
Notes: Apparently Joy is Christian. I did not know this.

Let me start this conversation off by saying this: I'm a stripper, and I love it. Got that?
I'll repeat it. I'm a stripper, and I love it. I was not coerced into sex work, it wasn't the only thing I could do to pay the bills, I don't have a kid to support, none of that. I chose this job because it suits me and it lets me do what I want, ie, be sexy and dance.

That's not to say that there aren't women coerced into this business, women who feel like they have no other outlet. I've known a few. My point is that not all strippers do their job because they have to. Some of us do it because we want to. The idea that no woman could enjoy sex work ties in to the pervasive myth that the female sex drive is nonexistent, and that women do not and should not enjoy being sexy and putting their bodies on display because female desire is somehow a shameful thing.

To which I say bite me. I like sex. I have a lot of it. Not on the clock, because stripper and prostitute are two different jobs entirely, but when I want to. Female desire is fucking awesome, and there's not a sinful thing about it. I mean, really. The clitoris has twice the sensory nerves per square inch than the penis, and you want to tell me that God intended for women to not enjoy sex? The only people who actually believe that are inconsiderate men.

Whoops, excuse me. I seem to have tangented onto my other favorite rant there. This is the one about stripping, not the one about sex.

Back on topic.

Stripping is sex work, yeah, but strippers are not prostitutes. You cannot pay them to have sex with you, because a) it's illegal and b) they'll probably just laugh at you and cast aspirations on your dick. Which, to be honest? If you're trying to pay a stripper to have sex with you, it's probably not that hot.

Sometimes I feel really bad for hookers. All the bad sex they must have, to make a buck.

Anyway. Trying to pick up the strippers will also make you look stupid. We're doing a job. Sure, that job is to entertain you and give you spank bank material, but we are so not interested in doing anything more. In fact, I bet you at least fifty percent of strippers are in it to dance. Not to make you feel good—though that's what gets us tips, so we'll do it anyway—but because we love to dance, we don't mind taking our clothes off, and what job will let us do the same? You're like... an occupational hazard.

Because, yeah. I'm here to dance. I'll let you watch me and pay me for that privilege, but I'm not here to be your fucktoy or your girlfriend or whatever you want from me. I'm here to dance, and I'm here to make money. You stop paying, I stop playing. You try to feel me up, I'm gonna kick you in the balls. I am not your plaything. None of us are.

So don't try to pick us up, or pay us to blow you or whatever. Don't try to save us from our sinful ways, either. Sure, our religions vary, but I'm Christian, always have been, and Jesus hung out with hookers. I seriously doubt He'd have a problem with strippers. Or try to honk our boobs while 'saving' us. One specific regular, I'm looking at you; please feel free to stop being a regular any time now.

Don’t assume we need to be rescued. Yes, some of us do. Some girls, like Maya, need to be helped. But you know what? We can take care of our own. We're a friendly community, or at least that's my experience; we help each other out. We don't need some customer swooping in to try and white-knight his way into our pants.

Oh, and also? If you watch the pretty ladies dance and show you their boobies, pay 'em. No, really. Pay them. This is a job. You wouldn't ask a doctor or a dentist to work for you without paying them, don't assume a stripper's going to do the same, because we're not. If you don't pay, you don't see boobies. Suck it up and tip the girls.

What happens if you don't?

Well, I've got bouncers for friends. But more importantly I wear stiletto heels, have good aim, and kick like a mule.

Your call.
