Title: Sleet
Rating: PG
Summary: Melanie's helping him pack.
Warnings: none. Well, signs of impending divorce.
Notes: Memefill for Sara, "putting away clothes." One of these days I'll write something happy for these two.
'Wintery mix,' they said on the radio, but Melanie calls it like she sees it and that is sleet, the kind that burrows under scarves and leaves liquid ice down her spine. So of course Nathan's leaving today.
She's helping him pack. She doesn't know why. She wants to clutch at him and beg him not to go, but here she is folding clothes and handing them over for him to put in his bag, mechanically, shirt, pants, jacket.
"How long will you be gone this time?"
He shrugs, doesn't answer.
Sleet patters against the window, and Melanie grows cold.
