Summary: Three people watch the ships.
AU: EPIC PIRATE AU
Notes: Another of my tense-changing drabble chains.
There was a galleon at the dock when Nathan brought his little one-man sloop into the port. He tied up and stood for a moment, ignoring the yellow fish flopping in his nets, listening to the orders echoing across the water. Bosun had a bloody good voice.
Once upon a time, he was one of the men scuttling around the ship making her ready to sail. Once he was a Navy man, with a shining future. Now...
Now he was a father, and all else must give way before that.
He shook his head, and began to unload the fish.

Ivy likes to watch the ships, likes to sit on the dock, dangle her bare feet and watch them sweep majestically in and out to sea. She remembers standing in the bow, wind in her hair, salt on her tongue, riding the swells. She was free, then, completely.
The trouble with being completely free is that you are also completely alone. She has Gina now, and their children, the orphaned babies they have taken as their own. Her brother and sister are a step away, her friends just beyond.
She misses it, a little, but she would not go back.

Billy will stand on the shore, just beyond the docks he's forbidden to walk on alone, and strain to see the ships. Someday he will be big enough to sail on one of them, and oh!
He will be just like his aunt, his papa, his grandpapa. He will be a captain, and sail to the Americas, to Africa, even around the world to China. He will feel the ocean rolling under his feet, smell the salt air, hear the waves crashing against his hull.
Someday, he will be magnificent.
Until then, he will wait by the docks and dream.
