The Thriller Project

This is my attempt to write a thriller. It takes place approximately ten years after the end of the main In the Heart canon, and follows Summer in her career as a medical examiner in the DC police force. It also features two new main characters: Officers Zachary Ryan and Felipe Claro, uniformed partners in the DC police. The three of them become entangled in an increasingly frightening case, and with each other.

2028: Tea. Summer has ways of coping.

2028: Part 1. Officer Zachary Ryan and Doctor Summer Kendall meet, to their mutual annoyance.

2028: From the Desk. A note found on Dr. Summer Kendall's desk after it was all over.

2028: Gore. The man known as Jason Dacre gets a call. Warnings for messy and violent imagery, mention of murder.

2028: Part 2. Dr. Kendall and Officer Ryan don't get along any better the second time 'round. Also, the plot arrives. Sort of.

2028: The Way You Are. Felipe learns something, makes a friend, and ends up in trouble, did he but know it.

2028: Must Be Dreaming. This is the way things go.

2028: Charity. Felipe does Zack and Summer a favor.

December 24th, 2028: The Christmas Horse. Zack gets Summer the perfect present, more or less by accident.

December 24th, 2028: Epiphany. Zack's side of The Christmas Horse.

December 29th, 2028: Part Three. Summer misses quite a few things and the plot arrives with a vengeance.

December 29th, 2028: Prey. The man calling himself Jason Dacre smiles.

December 29th, 2028: Part Four. Zack has either very good or very very bad timing.

December 29th, 2028: Part Five. In which Danny's advice is more useful than she probably ever suspected.

December 29th, 2028: Part Six. In which Zack gives up on getting to his meeting, Summer gets her long-awaited breakdown, and some jerks just don't know when to stay gone.

December 29th, 2028: Sidelines. Felipe gets a call.

December 29th, 2028: Part Seven. In which some things become clear.

December 30th, 2028: Part Eight. The plot advances, and Zack commits the sin of envy.

2029: Lunchtimes. So tell me, darling, do you wish we'd fall in love? Summer and Zack.

2029: Mud. Felipe's first case in homicide. WARNING: implied sexual misconduct, murder.

2029: Dreaming. Three of these are fantasies: he knows which one is real.

2029: can't. He can't do it.

2029: Revelations. "Speaking as an engaged man, I am deeply uncomfortable with how much I enjoyed that."

2029: Say Yes. He should say no.

2029: Conversations. Zack and Summer talk.

2029: Chance. This is a chance that Summer must take.

2030: Games. Summer came home in tears, and none of it was funny anymore.

2030: Writing Lines. The boys fail to get away with it.

2030: A Dozen Roses. Zack writes a poem.

2031: Self-Defense. He's getting away.

2031: Conquering Hero. "Hail the conquering hero!"

2031: Blossom. Summer goes home.

2053ish: Time to Fly. She blinked, and Thomas grew up.
