Title: Blinding
Rating: PG
Summary: Love makes fools of us all.
Notes: I frickin' love Florence and the Machine.
WARNING for domestic abuse.

1. no more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone

Danny loved a boy who died, once.

She isn't sure if she loved him before he died. She kissed him, once, but she was fifteen and a kiss meant nothing then.

He had a car, brand new and fragile. He was so proud-- no one else had a new car. The woman he hit had an old, strong car. They had to cut open the roof to get her out, but she was unhurt.

Danny remembers the photograph atop the closed coffin, and thinks she loved him then.

2. no more calling like a crow for a boy for a body in the garden

You're so strange, he says. I feel like you'd rather spend time with bodies than with me, he says. I can't do this, he says, and leaves her with a kiss on the cheek.

Summer stands with her feet apart, because she can keep her balance better, and crosses her arms across her chest, because it hurts less. She won't look after him, because she can't stand it.

She stands for a while, head down, then goes back to the dead, because they at least don't judge her.

3. no more dreaming like a girl so in love so in love

The slap finished it. One open-handed hit across the cheek. It left a red mark; that faded, but she can still feel the sting. Gina stares at the spot in the mirror.

She locked the door. She can hear Vanessa outside, begging her to open it, but she won't. Eventually Vanessa will get bored, and leave. She always gets bored and leaves.

This time, of course, she won't come back.

She kisses her hand, presses it against the spot. Vanessa won't come back, because Gina won't let her.

4. no more dreaming like a girl so in love so in love

She knew it was coming, though she pretended otherwise. She knew Val would have to go back home. Standing in the airport, waiting for Val to pick up her tickets, Ivy wishes she hadn't known this.

"Well," Val says awkwardly, standing with her luggage around her. "Goodbye. We'll keep in touch, won't we?"

"Yeah," Ivy says, and kisses her once, quickly. "We will. I love you."

"I love you too," Val says, then whisks through security and is gone.

They don't keep in touch.

Ivy knew they wouldn't.

5. no more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world

She misses him.

It feels so disloyal. She has her father. She has steady work as an accompanist. She has everything she ever wanted from life.

But she doesn't have her friends. She doesn't have Jake.

The last time he kissed her, they'd broken up already. She was about to leave. He'd said nothing, just kissed her hard, then left.

Olivia bites her lip, to stop the memory, and gets up. She needs to practice. She has work in the morning.

She just misses him so much.
