Jake looked stunned, like someone had hit him in the back of the head with a brick made of joy. Olivia, exhausted and drugged as she was, practically glowed where she leaned against his shoulder. Everyone else, including the new grandparents, was engaged in making silly faces and sillier noises at the tiny scrap of life in Olivia's arms.
"Isn't she beautiful?" Gina asked, in the soppy voice most people used for kittens. (Danny herself used it for particularly nice guns).
Danny wrinkled her nose.
"She looks like an alien," she declared, finally.
Everyone stared.
Danny stared back, defensively. "What?"
