Christine knew the basics of buying houses, even if she'd never done it before. You weren't supposed to buy the first house you saw. Even if you could afford it. Even if it was perfect. Even if, standing in the kitchen with your second child kicking in your belly, you looked at the sun slanting honey-gold over the table and knew, just knew, that this was everything you wanted.
Alan took her hand on the way out the door, and asked, "Should we even bother seeing the others?"
She looked up at his warm, slightly rueful smile, and said no.
