Title: Stockings
Rating: PG
Summary: Knitting the Christmas stockings was a bad idea.
Warnings: very brief mention of infertility, swearing
Notes: none.
In hindsight, knitting the Christmas stockings had been a mistake.
To begin with, the only yarn Maria had was red, white, and blue Fourth of July acrylic crap that had been on sale the last time she'd had a crafting obsession. Then there was the small detail that she didn't know how to knit. At least she'd managed to finished Lawrence's, crooked and half holes as it was.
She was still finishing her own on Christmas Eve, her needles clicking against the crackle of the fire, her swearing muffled under Lawrence snoring on the couch. They'd meant to go to Lawrence's family for dinner tonight, but when she got down to it Maria just couldn't stand the thought.
She knew they'd ask about babies, all faux concern and avid eyes. And she could not deal with that right now.
It would be okay, she reminded herself. They were going to adopt. They'd have children, there was just going to be a bit of a wait. She was going to be a mother. It was just going to take a little longer than she would have liked.
Goddamn stockings. She just could not figure out how to turn a damn heel.
