Title: water and sky
Rating: PG-13 for sexy talk
Summary: Love in the time of urban fantasy.
Warnings: none.
Notes: Couple hours late; hopefully still okay to post. And I have zero idea how to tag this.

lavender's blue 2) mermaid

Lily and Meriel have a complicated relationship.

Which isn't to say that they complicate it unnecessarily. In fact, it could be said that they don't complicate it at all. The difficulty lies in the simple fact that Meriel is a mermaid and Lily is not.

Still, they get by. Lily loves the sweep of the ocean, and Meriel loves the permanence of land. They tangle together in tide pools, Lily's near-white hair transparent in the water. Meriel knows all the little caves where they can lie together, half-in and half-out of the water.

It's a complicated relationship, but it works.

aqua 3) nymph

Olivia dances like she's walking on air, like her body is weightless. And sure, that makes sense-- she is an air nymph, an aura, daughter of the wind and lover of the sky. But even knowing that, it surprises Jake every time how unearthly she can be. It's like she's not even human.

Then other times she is so vibrant he can't believe she was ever anything else. When she smiles at him across the breakfast table, when she kisses him goodbye, when she cries out beneath him, her arms around his shoulders.

Sometimes he can't even believe she's real.

faded blue 5) The same old witchcraft when your eyes meet mine

"Are you sure you're not a witch?" Nathan asks, half-joking, and the thing is Gail really isn't sure. If she is, it's not conscious, so she laughs back at him and shakes her head.

But maybe she is. Maybe there's magic in her hands and mouth. They've won her Nathan, haven't they, and her children, her daughters and her not-quite son. They've won her a job she likes, a life she loves.

And maybe all that's coincidence. Maybe there's nothing more magical about her than her truesight. Maybe her gifts are all her.

She's not sure which explanation she prefers.

peacock 12) glamour

There's a peculiar thing that Gina does. Ivy's not sure she's even aware that she's doing it. She just ducks her head and tucks a little half-smile into the corner of her mouth, and people trip over themselves to do what she asks.

Ivy's not immune to it, though she can tell when it's happening. It's something in Gina's eyes, in the merest flash of white teeth, and the way she strokes her fingers across her chin. It makes Ivy weak in the knees and wet between the thighs. Glamour, they call it. Like a spell.

It certainly feels like one.

wizard 15) charms

Lars has never really known what it is that attracts him to bad girls, or for that matter what attracts them to him. Maybe it's his troll-blood, at least in part; he remembers his mother telling him stories of the old trolls and their courtships, thrown rocks and screaming included. Trolls are tough, they had to be, and Lars is no exception.

But it isn't just that. There's a certain... he likes finding their softness. Every bad girl has a gentle side, and so does every troll. He likes knowing where that is.

Bumps and bruises and kisses.

He likes that.

robin's egg blue 19) swan

The first time Joy changes for him, it blows Michael's mind.

Not in a surprised way; he knew what she was and what she was going to do. Honestly, he was expecting something a little more stomach-twisting than the sweep of white feathers. He also expected the visceral fear-- swans are big.

But she's beautiful, as beautiful as she is when she's human, and her feathers are unbelievably soft beneath his palm. She lets him stroke her for as long as he wants.

Plus, it turns out that swans make hilarious noises. He's pretty sure that's why she bit him.

bullet the blue sky 20) Midnight is where the day begins.

The really obnoxious thing about being a vampire is that regular diurnal schedules-- Felipe can't resist the pun--bite. Thank God for night shifts.

Summer is hilarious when she gets started on how humans and shifters are diurnal and so should vampires be. She's so logical, bless her, she hates it when things don't make sense. Though, of course, it does make sense. It just sucks (ha!) that he can't spend more time with his lovers.

And that he's always the one who has to get up with the kid in the middle of the night. It's just not fair.

alice blue 22) I have seen so many extraordinary things, nothing seems extraordinary any more.

Aaron has seen so much. On purpose, of course. He's a scholar of the supernatural; he collects information so he can... well, that's the question. He's seen so much, but what can he do with it? It just makes him tired.

He writes it all down, shares it with Lars, and anyone else who asks, because otherwise what good is it? He's a weird kind of librarian for the supernatural community, and he feels like he's seen it all. Nothing can surprise him.

And then he meets Clara, entirely mortal, entirely normal, entirely extraordinary.

It's amazing what life can do.

coomassie blue 23) chimeric

Paige is a marmoset, small and furry and a deep rich gold, and Zack is a wolf, grey and black fur and lazy blue eyes. And Kayleigh, Kayleigh has no idea what she is, or even if she's anything at all. She's nearly fifteen, and shouldn't she have changed by now, if she's really inherited their father's genes?

She tells Paige all of this one night over hot chocolate, and Paige gives her a soft look, and a smile. "It's okay, you know," she says, "it doesn't make you any less our sister."

"I know," Kayleigh says, but she doesn't.

loch blue 23) kelpie

Danny saw a kelpie once, in the Navy. On one of her free afternoons she'd gone walking by the lake, and she saw the horse there, half in and half out of the water.

It was only a horse for a split second, so short a time she wondered if she'd hallucinated it, and then it was a man, smiling at her, beckoning. He stepped closer, and she ran. She's grateful her instincts were working enough to get her out of there.

She's happy now. She wasn't then.

She doesn't know what might have happened, if he'd come any closer.
