Title: Nothing Is More Real
Rating: PG
Summary: Ivy and Gina on their wedding day.
Warnings: none.
Notes: This got weird on me.

The sand was strange beneath her feet, soft and rough at the same time, rolling like the sea she'd just left. She was barefoot, and perhaps she ought not to be, but it felt right, and there were no rules for this anyway. They'd have to make up their own.

Fortunately Ivy had always been good at making up her own rules.

She'd never imagined marriage, not even as a girl. Somehow she'd always known it was not for her. To get even this close, standing on a Caribbean beach in a new silk kirtle and gown and the sand between her toes, it seemed almost unreal. As if any moment she would open her eyes and find that all of it had been a dream.

She curled her toes in the sand and felt it scrunch beneath her, indisputably real.

They'd got ready this morning in different cabins, Ivy in Aaron's and Gina in their own, Summer running back and forth with armfuls of flowers and a bright, eager face. The crew had been sent their own way, only their friends behind to witness this, and it cut her a little that her parents would not be here. At least she could be safe in the knowledge that they would approve; Gina did not even have that.

Gina. She had Ivy though, and she always would have.

Gina, who was walking down the beach now on Aaron's arm, Summer frisking after her, both of them barefoot too. Gina, who was so incredibly, inexpressibly beautiful, with so much joy in her face, flowers in her hair and her hands and a rain of petals in her path, as if they'd sprung up where she walked.

Ivy's heart began to hammer in her chest. Without meaning to, she found she'd stretched out her arms, and Gina was running to her.

--

Come with me.

Yes.

Stay with me.

Yes.

--

"It won't be a real wedding," she'd said, when she proposed this little ceremony. They were lying together in bed, legs entwined, Ivy's head tucked against Gina's chin. But Gina had moved, slipping out from beneath her, propped herself on one elbow and cupped Ivy's cheek.

"No," she'd said. "Nothing could be more real than this."

--

And here, with Gina's hands in hers and the sand rough beneath her feet, Summer's arms overflowing with flowers and Aaron's face overtaken by a grin.

After this they'd have their honeymoon, a few days just to themselves and this, their own private island-- Gina's body flashing whitely beneath the water, her mouth soft and raw from the sun. Ivy would turn pink and then red, and savor the sting when Gina touched her. But now, but here, they were together, and she couldn't imagine anything that would part them, not even death.

"I do," she said, and Gina was so beautiful it nearly blinded her.

Nothing could be more real than this.
