"Hey," Felipe said, sounding mildly surprised, as the pair of them walked out of the station hand-in-hand. "It's our anniversary."
"Is it?" Zack checked his phone, and his eyebrows went up. "It is. I had an alert and everything. Huh."
Felipe grinned. "I forgot too, babe. You're off the hook."
Zack laughed, and leaned over to kiss him, quick and easy. "We should celebrate. Want to do something?"
His husband considered it for half a block, then said, "No, not really. Nothing big, anyway."
Zack could understand that. Felipe had just come off a hell of a case and he was pretty beat himself. "You want to go drinking?"
"Hell yeah," Felipe said, and they made a left instead of catching the subway.

"Oh my god, honey, no, I am not drinking anything with a worm in it."
The man probably hadn't meant for that to carry the way it did, but he hit one of the rare collective silences that hit every bar once in a while. Marie turned right around on her bar stool and caught a dark-haired man making a rueful face.
"Coward," the blond man with him said, and turned to the bartender. "Tequila, straight up." The other one rolled his eyes and asked for a rum and coke instead.
"Hey, sweetie, I'm over here," Gillian said, and touched Marie's shoulder lightly.
Marie turned back around and grinned at her girlfriend, sheepishly. "Sorry," she said. "That was just a pretty weird thing to hear."
Gillian shrugged, and smiled. "No, I get it. People don't usually shout about worms in a crowded bar."
Marie giggled. "I don't think he meant to," she said, remembering his expression. "They're a cute couple, anyway. If they're a couple."
"Mm." Gillian looked over Marie's shoulder again. "They are. Rings."
"Good for them." Marie circled the top of her wine glass with a finger, and decided she wasn't going to get a better chance. "Speaking of rings."
Gillian tensed. Dammit.
She must think it was too soon. Why the hell wasn't eight months enough? Marie didn't know, but then most of her exes had said the same thing: she got way too serious way too fast and it freaked them out. So bringing up marriage after eight months was probably way too soon. But...
Oh, well, fuck it. Might as well bull on through.
"I know it's really soon," Marie said, speeding up as she went, trying to get all the words out before Gillian stopped her, "but I think you're amazing, Gilly. I mean, you're perfect for me and I think we're perfect together and maybe we could maybe think about—I'm not asking for anything serious, okay, but maybe we could think about getting married someday? If that's somewhere you maybe want to go with this? Because I know I really do and—"
"Sweetie!" Gillian was laughing, and she reached forward now and put a finger over Marie's mouth. "Breathe! Relax."
Marie whooped in a breath and gave her a sheepish look. "Sorry. Um. So maybe we could... think about it? You know, for the future?"
Gillian shrugged. "Why wait? Let's get married."
"Wait, for real?" Marie demanded. "You're not making fun of me?"
"Um, no?" Gillian gave her a weird look. "I love you, you love me, let's get married. Next spring, maybe?"
Marie whooped, and launched herself across the table.

Felipe was still ribbing Zack about the tequila when a commotion broke out near the bar.
He looked over, past his husband's shoulder, at the two girls clinging to each other, screaming and kissing and spinning around in circles. The whole bar was looking now—one of them noticed, and yelled, "We're getting married!"
Zack put two fingers in his mouth and whistled as Felipe applauded and the bar erupted in cheers. "Round for the bar!" somebody hollered, and the manager added, "On the house!" which provoked much louder cheers.
"You want more of your worm-crap?" Felipe asked, half out of his seat. Brave man, to push his way through the crowd around the bar.
"Nah," Zack said, and grinned. "Whatever you're drinking."
Felipe smiled at him, bent and kissed him, and went off towards the bar.
