Title: Breath
Rating: PG
Summary: It takes a breath to shift his skin.
It takes no more than a breath to shift skins, from bear to man and back again. It takes no more than a breath to break his world apart.
("Am I," he'd cried, "am I your son, tell me the truth," and she had looked away, and he'd known.)
He takes a breath now and dives, a great snow bear cutting through the water. It's cold, so cold; it would be colder as a man.
(He could see them still in his mind's eye, his family: brothers and sisters, mother and father—and two snow bears towering above them all.)
