Respect
Title: Respect
Rating: PG
Summary: Ben meets his soon-to-be stepson.
Date: 1996
Notes: So Ben is a thinly-disguised tribute to Hawkeye. What of it?
Melanie's son has brown floppy hair and solemn eyes, wiry and thin like most adolescents. He's pretty calm for thirteen, Ben thinks. He doesn't have Mel's occasional high-strung tendencies, or her melodramatic flair. He does have her smile, and her wry sense of humor, and they both use the same little toss of the head to get their hair out of their faces. He's quiet; Ben's a little worried that it's because he disapproves.
"Nah," he says, when asked (Ben doesn't believe in talking down to children). "You're pretty cool."
For some reason, it feels like being given a Nobel.
