In Response To Tennyson

Title: In Response to Tennyson
Rating: PG.
Summary: For my female characters, and for every woman.
Notes: In response to this Tennyson quote.

If you love me for my skin, you do not love me.
I am not a bauble thrown into the air
for you to catch.
I am not a prize.
I am not a toy.
I am not an image, painted or photographed
for you to build a dream around.

If you love me for my mind, perhaps you love me.
But I am more than words and spoken thoughts
that you mishear.
I am a daughter.
I am a friend.
I am a woman, fierce and wild, strong and shining
and powerful without you.

If you love me for my soul, then you might love me.
But love is more than spiritual hearts
and holy hauteur.
I am earthy.
I am sexy.
I possess a body, stark and lovely, glorious
in the imperfections you despise.

If you love me for my whole, then you do love me.
You take me as I am, and that entire
without reserve.
I am not your goddess.
I am not your plaything.
I am your lover, partner, hope and heartache
all things in one woman, in me.
