He can see the stars.
He couldn't, in the hospital. The buildings crowded out the sky. Then once he came home, the rain started. He stared out his window and saw only overcast skies, heavy grey clouds weeping onto the earth.
There's enough crying in the house. He didn't want to see it in the sky.
But tonight the skies are clear, the full moon dazzling, the stars in their familiar patterns bright and friendly. He knows every constellation by name, can trace them all in the sky.
It's getting hard to breathe now.
But he can see the stars.
