Jack Iverson Is A Dead Man (And Nathan Kendall Is Going To Hell)

Title: Jack Iverson Is A Dead Man (And Nathan Kendall Is Going To Hell).
Co-Author: sarcasticsra
Rating: PG
Summary: Nathan gets set up on a blind date.
Date: May 2010
AU: FULL OF LULZ
Notes: I blame Sara for this. Isabella belongs to and is written by her.

This was the blindest of blind dates; just a name and a number. Not even a physical description. But Nathan hadn't been on a date in an embarrassingly long time, so he'd gone for it, because why not? Besides, Katie was a nice kid, she wouldn't give him a dud. Not intentionally, anyway.

So he'd called. Isabella Corlioni had a gorgeous voice, but she'd volunteered nothing and they hadn't talked long. So now he had a name, a number, and directions to the restaurant whose lobby he was currently approaching.

All right, Nathan. Just dive in. He took a breath, then opened the door. It didn't look like anyone was waiting yet, so evidently he had arrived first. He took the opportunity to glance around the restaurant, taking it in; it was a very nice Italian place that she had suggested. She obviously had good taste, which was a promising sign.

A couple minutes passed before he heard the bell over the door go off; he glanced up. A gorgeous young woman walked in, looking around curiously—emphasis on "young". That can't be her, he thought. For God's sake, she couldn't be Aaron's age yet.

The young woman sat down across from him, and they both waited. After a few minutes, Nathan wondered idly if she'd been stood up. After a few more minutes, he was starting to wonder if he'd been stood up. Wouldn't be the first time.

It was another minute before the young woman spoke to him. "I suppose I should ask, since you're waiting—your name wouldn't happen to be Nathan, would it?"

Nathan stared. "...Isabella?"

She laughed, which was a wonderful sound. "Maybe we should've worn red carnations."

Oh, God. He'd been set up on a date with a woman young enough to be his daughter.

And he was seriously considering going through with it.

I'm going to hell.

"You're Isabella Corlioni," he said, in the faint hope that maybe, somehow, this was an insane mix-up and there was some other Isabella out there on a blind date with some other Nathan. Some other much younger Nathan.

She nodded. "Yeah, that's me. You're Nathan Kendall?"

"Yeah," he said weakly. "How old are you?" he added, and a second too late thought better of it. What kind of question was that to ask on what was supposed to be a date? "I'm sorry," he said. "I shouldn't have asked that."

Isabella only looked amused, though. "It's okay," she said. "I'm twenty-two."

Oh, God.

Katie was a dead woman.

"I see," he said, as calmly as he could. "Did Katie happen to mention that my son is twenty-seven?" He wasn't even going to touch his age.

Isabella's eyes widened. "Your...son."

"Yes," Nathan said, and rubbed a hand over his face. "His name is Aaron and he turned twenty-seven in February. I'm going to kill Katie."

"I might help you," she said, laughing. "Dan too. Jack said he was in on it."

That distracted him. "Wait, Jack? He gave you my number?"

She nodded. "Yeah, he said it was from Dan and Katie. Why?"

"Jack's the one who gave me yours. Supposedly on Katie's suggestion."

Isabella raised an eyebrow, looking amused. "So maybe Jack's the one we actually need to kill," she said.

"That's what it sounds like," he agreed. "If only I hadn't just run out of rope."

She smiled at him then, far too prettily. "I suppose it could be worse, though," she said. "You're pretty cute, at least."

"Thanks. So are you," his mouth said. Going to hell. Going to hell. "Er, Isabella..."

"Don't tell me," she said. The smile turned wry. "I'm very pretty and charming, but way too young."

Well, at least he didn't have to say it. "I'm sorry," he said, and winced at how lame it sounded. "It's just...my son is five years older than you. That's a little too weird for me. You are gorgeous and charming, though."

She nodded, amused. "It's cool," she said. "To be honest, I'd probably be a little disturbed if my age didn't freak you out at all."

"Heh." Couldn't blame her for that. He hesitated a moment—oh, why not. No one ever said he couldn't be around pretty girls, and if he was going to hell anyway he might as well have a nice evening. "Well, you came all this way. Let me buy you a strictly platonic dinner. We can plan Jack's imminent demise."

She grinned. "All right," she agreed. "That sounds like fun."

Okay, so maybe he'd kill Jack a little less slowly for this. This looked like it would be fun.

Even if he was going to hell.
