Notes: This is the most cliche and self-indulgent AU ever, but it makes Joanna so happy that I do not even care.
Menopause. For heaven's sake, menopause. She's only thirty-seven; shouldn't this wait another ten years?
Not that it changes anything. The cramps will stop with her periods, at least; that will be nice. Frankly, she'll be happy to be rid of the periods themselves. It's not as if she'd planned to have children and had those plans changed.
Well, they were changed, just not by menopause.
It doesn't matter, she tells herself. It’s odd, but it doesn't matter. Hugh doesn't mind, and it doesn't matter to her. She keeps telling herself that, right up until the doctor tells her she's pregnant.
