When I married Melanie, I thought it would last forever. It didn't, obviously, and when it ended, I felt... lost isn't the right word. Unbalanced? Like my world had shifted just a bit sideways, and nothing would ever be quite right again.

Meeting Gail changed all that. It sounds cliché, but clichés are clichés for a reason; they happen a lot. Gail made everything seem right again.

When I married Melanie, I thought it would last forever.

When I married Gail, I knew it would. And that makes all the difference.

I don't know when I fell in love with Aaron. Maybe it just happened, creeping into my consciousness unnoticed, like a ninja. Ninja love, sneaking in under the wire.

I know I didn't feel ready for a relationship, not after what Kevin did to me. But then again I also felt that Aaron was... safe, in a way that Kevin never was. I met him at AVEN, after all, and he was... himself. I was sure from the very first that he would never hurt me.

He never has, either.

It's wonderful to be right sometimes.

I was terrified, when I moved back to New York, that he wouldn't want me back. I knew that was why I'd broken up with him in the first place, in case that happened, but it still haunted me. And then he did want me, and...

It was not a mistake, breaking up with him.

But I am never, ever, ever doing it again.

I almost lived without you

The first time Ben asked me to marry him, I almost said no. I mean, being married hadn't really done much for me-- I loved Nathan, I really did, but it wasn't enough, and I never wanted to put anyone through that again, not myself, not Ben. I loved him enough for that.

But I didn't say no, is the thing. I think I loved him too much for that. So I didn't say no, I said "not now."

It still took me until the tenth proposal to realize he was staying no matter what.

Generally, pre-Lars, my relationships didn't last long. Either they got sick of me using them as punching bags or they got sick of me period, and sooner or later they took off. I was pretty okay with that, honestly. I had my friends, I had Michael and Nathan. Didn't need anybody else.

Except Lars stays. I don't think he's capable of taking off. That bothered me at first. Now...

Now it's kinda nice to know that no matter what I say or do, he'll still be there in the morning.

Kinda nice, not to be left.

And then I think how my life would have been, without my children or Henrik. Quieter. Less chaotic.

So much lonelier.

No regrets, my love. I would not change a thing.
