Title: The Only Exception
Rating: G
Summary: Joanna's never really been one for love.
Date: July 2008
Notes: Listened to the Paramore song too many times? Who, me? Naaaah.
She remembers the fights; the awful, deadly quiet. She remembers her mother's mouth, white-lipped; her father's eyes, broken. She remembers her sisters, shaking; her brothers, punching walls.
She remembers putting a pillow over her head; promising herself that if this was love, she'd have none of it.
She never did, really. There were boyfriends, and then there weren't any, and then there were other reasons.
And then there was Hugh, and it was like the Wizard of Oz: the world went from grayscale to technicolor, her heart went from lost to found.
She can make an exception.
Just this once.
