It's a girl.
A big, healthy girl, according to the nurse. Gail did not need to be told the big part. Healthy is nice, and she's glad it's a girl. She wanted a girl, when she thought about it.
Her hands are shaking. Of course, it's partly exhaustion; she did just go through an intense physical workout, that lasted far longer than it had any right to. Over nine months of pregnancy, thirty-seven hours of labor, and she isn't even sure she can do this.
It's not just exhaustion making her hands shake when she first holds her baby.
