Gina can't breathe. She would blame her corset, but it isn't laced any more tightly than usual. She would blame the heat, but it's fairly cool here in the garden.
No, she knows what it is. It's this woman across from her, holding out her hand, saying, "Come with me."
"I can't," Gina says, but it's not what she wants to say, and Ivy knows it.
"Come with me," she says, again. "Be free."
Gina looks back at the house, feels her corset tight around her ribs, thinks of her father, of Ned waiting for her.
She takes Ivy's hand.
