The ship's wooden hull curves away over his head, the trunks beside him crowd in comfortingly, making just the right size space for him. Aaron comes here to think, because only Gail ever found him here, and she's gone.
He remembers her, crouching awkwardly over her baby-stomach, coaxing him out. He misses her.
Papa misses her too; he cries at night sometimes. Papa tried to explain why she left, but Aaron only understood "not good enough," and he knows she doesn't think that.
He doesn't understand why she left. But, he thinks, suddenly determined, he can make her come back.
